What you need
All you need is a backup of your current site: a single archive file with your content and your data. It ends in .zip or .tar.gz and contains the wp-content folder plus exactly one database dump ending in .sql. Every common backup tool at your current provider creates such a file. It may be at most 20 MB.
We never ask for the login details of your current provider — you bring the backup, nothing more. You also need the address your site ran at, exactly as it appeared in the browser, with or without www, for example https://deine-firma.com. We look for it in your content and replace it with the new one.
The move sets up a new installation and therefore takes up a slot.
Importing the site
You find the “Bring an existing site” box in WordPressBuilder as long as you have no installation, and otherwise under “New installation”. You give the new installation a name, enter your previous address and choose the file under “Your backup”. “Bring site” asks once more: we set up a new installation and import your site into it; your current site at the old provider stays untouched.
After “Yes, import now”, the steps “Check backup”, “Back up current state”, “Take over content”, “Import data”, “Rewrite addresses” and “Check site” run. This takes a few minutes; keep the window open. The move uses no AI credit.
- Open WordPressBuilder ai and, if you already have installations, “New installation”.
- In the “Bring an existing site” box, enter the name and your previous address and choose the file under “Your backup”.
- Click “Bring site” and confirm with “Yes, import now”.
- Wait until “Your site is here and responding.” appears.
What you see afterwards
When the move succeeds, it says “Your site is here and responding.”, together with the WordPress version, the number of posts, comments and users, and how many places were rewritten to your new address. If that number is zero, your previous address was usually written differently: check the site and see whether images and links are right.
If the move does not go through, it says “The move did not go through.”, with the step where it got stuck. Nothing is lost: the previous state is kept as a restore point among this installation’s backups. If you try again in the same window, the move uses the same new installation and takes up no further slot.
Before you apply anything in the Console afterwards, check in the “Styling” box which theme is selected — otherwise applying switches your imported site to the one selected there (Styling).
Switching over from the old site
Your current site keeps running until you switch over yourself. The imported one first runs at its own address on wp.kenjtec.ai; there you check calmly that everything is right.
Switching over means: your domain points to the new installation. To do that, you bring the domain under management in DomainStudio (Bringing a domain) and place it in front of the installation in the address plan; “Take over address” makes it your site’s address (Placing a domain in front of WordPress). Only then do visitors to your domain arrive at the new installation.
Taking your content with you
It works the other way round too: under “All functions”, in the area “Move and back up the content”, “Export content (WXR)” downloads your installation’s posts, pages and categories as an XML file — in WordPress’s own migration format, which any WordPress can import. Image files and settings are not included.
The file lands in your downloads folder; its name gives the installation and the day, for example cafe-lumen-inhalte-2026-09-23.xml. Below the action it then says “Downloaded:” with the file name.
- In the workbench, open “All functions” and the area “Move and back up the content”.
- Click “Run” next to “Export content (WXR)”.
