The workbench and WP-Admin.

How the workbench in WordPressBuilder ai is laid out: pages, preview and tools, signing in to WP-Admin without a password and your own domain in front.

How the workbench is laid out

When you open an installation, you land in the workbench. On the left are the pages from your draft and, below them, the areas of the Control Panel; in the middle the preview of your site; on the right the tools in tabs: “Console”, “Building blocks”, “Database”, “Store”, “Control Panel”, “History” and “Search engines”, plus “Developer” in developer mode. “Building blocks” and “History” open large in the middle instead of in the narrow column.

You drag the right-hand column wider or narrower at its edge; a double click resets it, and the arrow keys work too. ‹ and › collapse the pages and the tools. On a phone the same areas share three tabs: “Pages”, “Preview” and “Tools”.

Below the areas on the left you see which theme is running and how many plugins are active. At the very bottom, “Back to your dashboard” takes you out of WordPressBuilder.

The preview

In the middle you see your site as visitors see it. While the installation is a draft, the middle shows the plan: the planned pages with their text, not yet on WordPress. After changes made in the Console, the Control Panel or the building blocks, the preview reloads.

When you bring WP-Admin or the database tool into this window, a bar above it tells you what you are looking at, with “Full window ↗” for a browser window of its own and “To the preview” for the way back. Some browsers, such as Safari, do not allow signing in inside an embedded window; use “Full window ↗” then.

The status line above the preview

Above the preview, one line tells you how your site is doing: whether you are working on “Live” or in the “Sandbox”, whether WordPress is up to date or how many updates are pending, how many comments are waiting and when the last backup was made. If it says “no backup yet”, a click on “Back up now” is worth it (Backups).

“Details” unfolds the cards you look after your site with: the status card with the worry-free update and the nightly check, the last seven days, speed, backups and the sandbox. “Less” folds them away again.

Into WP-Admin without a password

Your WordPress has its ordinary back end. You get in without knowing a password: “WP-Admin” creates a sign-in link that is valid for one minute and a single use. We store it nowhere, and we have no administrator password at all. You are then signed in with your installation’s administrator account and can do everything WordPress offers. If you are working in the sandbox, “WP-Admin” takes you into its back end.

The back end carries KENJTEC’s colours and has its own sign-in page. Three things are fixed for protection: the file editor in WP-Admin is off — you edit code in the developer area, with a syntax check —, the old XML-RPC interface is switched off, and a failed sign-in does not reveal whether the username was right.

The Café Lumen workbench: a click on “WP-Admin” brings up the WordPress dashboard in KENJTEC’s colours in the preview window, then “Full window ↗” and back with “To the preview”.
  1. Click “WP-Admin” in the workbench header — the back end appears in the preview window.
  2. If you need more room, click “Full window ↗”.
  3. “To the preview” takes you back to your site.

What every installation has built in

Every installation comes with a few KENJTEC plugins you do not need to install: the protection for WP-Admin, the connection to your brand, the search engine settings, the cache for fast delivery, the “KENJTEC Form” and “KENJTEC Shop” blocks, and a maintenance page that visitors see during an update instead of an error. In the Control Panel they are marked “built in”; they cannot be switched off.

They are refreshed with every worry-free update. You still install your own plugins and themes as usual — through the Store, the Control Panel or WP-Admin.

Without a plan, the site is on hold

When your plan ends, your WordPress site is put on hold: instead of the site, visitors see a short notice that it is currently unavailable, and search engines are told that this is only temporary. Nothing is deleted or changed.

WP-Admin and the sign-in page stay open, and anyone who is signed in sees the site as before. As soon as a plan is running again, the site is back for everyone, with no further steps.

Placing your own domain in front

Every installation first runs at its address on wp.kenjtec.ai. If it should be reachable at your own domain, for example deine-firma.com, you place the domain in front of it in the DomainStudio address plan. The workbench has a line for this above the preview: “Place your own domain in front →” while there is none, otherwise “Your domain:” with its status and “Change in the address plan →”. Both lead straight to this installation’s sheet in the address plan.

The domain must be managed in DomainStudio. In the sheet you choose it and click “Place in front”; “Check status” shows how far it has got. Once it says “Active”, your domain answers with the installation. “Take over address” also makes it the address WordPress itself uses — we make a backup first, and the old address redirects afterwards. Your domain and its www can be placed in front.

You change your site’s address only there; in the Control Panel it is locked. Everything in detail is under Placing a domain in front of WordPress.

  1. Click “Place your own domain in front →” in the workbench.
  2. In your installation’s sheet, choose the domain and click “Place in front”.
  3. Later click “Check status”; once it says “Active”, click “Take over address” and confirm with “Yes, take over”.
